Enough! Time to Stop Child Abuse from Going Unnoticed

By Mandated Reporter Academy

Article

Are you tired of reading news stories about child abuse going unreported for years? A recent news report cited a case where a prominent adult is accused of abusing a child from age 6 to age 17, until the child herself had to report it to stop the perpetrator. How could this happen? You'd think a doctor, teacher, coach, or neighbor would have detected some sign of abuse and done something about it.

While somewhat extreme, this is the kind of event that influenced legislators to pass mandatory reporting laws and inspired Mandated Reporter Academy to create a comprehensive training solution for organizations and their employees and volunteers. Mandated Reporter Academy features the evidence-based iLookOut for Child Abuse training course, originally developed by Penn State College of Medicine.

While training by itself cannot prevent child abuse, comprehensive and engaging training can prevent the damaging effects of prolonged abuse. At Mandated Reporter Academy, we’re on a mission to educate those who come in contact with children on how to recognize and report child abuse so that professionals can intervene and stop the devastation as soon as possible.

As an organization employing mandated reporters, you can make an impact by ensuring your employees and volunteers who work with children are prepared and confident to report abuse. By diligently offering current training and certifying its completion, you can be more assured that identifiable signs of abuse will not go unnoticed in your organization.
